On Tuesday, Digital Uncut went back to school for our second Digital Day through BIMA, where we were partnered with Leyton Sixth Form College.
Our students were BTECH IT students, so already had a particular interest in the digital/IT industry. When we asked if anyone had any real-life experience with IT or working with digital applications, we were met with a range of activities from the students, and impressively one student had built a website and was coding a Python app for a local charity.
BIMA provided excellent guidance and materials for us to deliver to the students, and so it really was an action packed day aiming to inspire the next generation of digital professionals. We talked about Digital Uncut, the work we do and showed off some of our clients, and then accompanied by several BIMA videos, we went onto discuss the wide range of opportunities in digital which really interested most of the students, and led in quite nicely to the next part of the day – the challenges!
The Digital Day challenges were set by industry partners: Vodafone UK, BBC and the FA. Each group of four students took on one of the challenges and then set about planning a digital project.
Each group had different thoughts and ideas about the challenges, designing prototypes and sketches, and one team even pulled together a mock app. After lunch the teams finalised their pitches, which were all well thought out and the students did a great job of pitching their ideas. After a great set of pitches, the overall winners were team 4, Vodafone challenge.
At Digital Uncut, we’re passionate about giving back to the community and inspiring the next generation of digital people. We’d like to say a massive thank you to Leyton Sixth Form College, (we have a lot of admiration for teachers after our day), and another thank you to BIMA for organising the great day.
Good luck to Leyton Sixth Form College in the finals!
